ITS Australia appoints MCI Australia for 2016 ITS World Congress

21 November 2013

ITS Australia has appointed global events company MCI Australia to manage and market the 23rd Intelligent Transport Systems World Congress to be held 10 to 14 October 2016 in Melbourne, Australia.

The ITS World Congress and Exhibition will be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre and is expected to attract more than 5000 delegates and generate more than AUS$23.5 million income for the city.

ITS Australia Chief Executive Officer Susan Harris said the 2016 ITS World Congress will bring the world’s leading transportation, infrastructure and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS*) academics and executives to Melbourne.

“Capitalising on Melbourne’s reputation as a regular winner of ‘the world’s most liveable city’ title, the World Congress theme will be ITS – enhancing liveable cities and communities,” she said.

“ITS Australia has appointed international event management company MCI Australia to the role of Professional Conference Organiser and we welcome them to the 2016 World Congress team.

“With its experience of large global events, MCI is well placed to deliver a rewarding and high quality event. The MCI innovations in international delegate boosting and sponsorship procurement will add significant value to our marketing campaign.

“MCI is a good strategic fit because they are also working with ITS Europe (ERTICO) on the 2014 European ITS Congress in Helsinki, Finland and on the 2015 ITS World Congress in Bordeaux, France,” Susan Harris said.

MCI Australia Managing Director Stephan Wurzinger said the company’s ITS industry experience will benefit the 2016 World Congress in Melbourne. “ITS is a rapidly growing high technology industry. In addition to ITS businesses, the industry links strongly to academia, business and private users, and government,” he said.

“We appreciate this important aspect of the industry and understand how to bring together its diverse stakeholders. We look forward to working with ITS Australia to showcase Australia’s leadership in this exciting and progressive field,” Stephan Wurzinger said.

Vital local support

Susan Harris said the appointment of the Professional Conference Organiser is a key step toward a successful World Congress. “ITS Australia greatly appreciates the work done by Collaborative ITS Consulting Australia in assisting with the procurement process,” she said.

“ITS Australia acknowledges the support of the Melbourne Convention Bureau and its role in helping ITS Australia to secure this event for Melbourne. The MCB team plays an important role with delegate marketing to ensure a strong event for Melbourne

“We look forward to working in the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. It is a world leading facility and will provide the perfect platform for the success of the Congress and exhibition.

“ITS Australia successfully delivered the 2001 ITS World Congress in Sydney. We are planning a 2016 World Congress in Melbourne that will help all cities and communities become more liveable and sustainable,” she said.
