LESLIE RICHARDS

Leslie S. Richards was appointed in January 2015 by Governor Tom Wolf as the Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. With a $9 billion budget and nearly 12,000 employees, PennDOT oversees programs and policies affecting highways, urban and rural public transportation, airports, railroads, ports and waterways. The agency is directly responsible for roughly 40,000 miles of highway and 25,000 bridges. PennDOT also administers the state’s more than 11 million vehicle registrations and 8.8 million driver’s licenses.


Secretary Richards’ vision is a PennDOT with continued improved efficiencies to meet the financial challenges ahead, a diversified workforce that offers employees fulfilling career opportunities, and a broadened planning and project development process that considers from the start input from all stakeholders reflecting a truly multi-modal approach. She has extensive private and public sector experience including work as a senior project manager at a civil engineering firm and Montgomery County Commissioner.
